Gene ID converter

Paste gene symbols or database identifiers and retrieve the corresponding symbols, Entrez Gene, Ensembl, UniProt, HGNC/MGI/RGD, aliases, and more in one table. Export everything to CSV for GSEA, Venn lists, or spreadsheets.

Lookups use the public MyGene.info API (internet required). Pair with pre-ranked GSEA or the Venn diagram tool after normalising IDs.

Run a conversion to see matched identifiers in columns.

How this tool works

Each query is sent in batches to MyGene.info with the selected species and input scopes. The top hit for each ID is flattened into columns (symbol, Entrez, Ensembl gene/transcript/protein, UniProt Swiss-Prot and TrEMBL, HGNC/MIM/MGI/RGD, aliases, map location, gene type, taxid).

Supported inputs

  • Gene symbols and aliases (e.g. TP53, p53)
  • Entrez Gene IDs (e.g. 7157)
  • Ensembl gene IDs (e.g. ENSG00000141510)
  • UniProt accessions (e.g. P04637)
  • HGNC / MGI / RGD IDs where available for that species

CSV export

Export CSV downloads one row per query with all identifier columns. Multiple values in a cell (aliases, TrEMBL accessions) are separated by ; . Unmatched queries are kept with matched=no so you can see what failed.

Limitations

  • Requires network access to MyGene.info; annotation mirrors their database versions.
  • Ambiguous symbols take the top-scoring hit only — check aliases when names collide.
  • Limit 2,000 IDs per run (processed in batches of 200).
